The typical pastel coloured small houses are the first thing you notice when you approach her by the sea, painted like this so that when fishermen come back home, they can easily recognize their own house by the sea.
This is just one of the characteristics of Procida, the smallest island of Campania’s Gulf, the closest to Naples and the first one to have been named Italy's Capital of Culture for 2022 thanks to its “model for sustainable development based on the culture of the island and its coastline”.

Ah, I would not ask to be a seagull, or a dolphin; I’d be quite happy to be a scorpion fish, the ugliest fish in the sea, just to be able to be down there, playing in the water".
With “L’isola di Arturo”, the novel setted in Procida, the famous writer Elsa Morante was the first woman to win the Strega Prize. She spent a long period on the island, surrounded by her wilde nature and the unique lemon scent.
Since ever loved and attended by artists and intellectuals, Procida has also hosted some scenes of the movie “Il Postino” with Massimo Troisi.

Not just culture: the food traditions

Not just culture: the food traditions

The principal element of Procida cuisine is naturally fish and shell fish which are caught daily by the local fishermen. The island cuisine offers also the typical lemon salad with oil, garlic, chilli and mint or the Procidan wild rabbit with garlic and white wine. But the very cherry on top is the typical procidan dessert: the popular so called “lingue di bue”, a delicious puff pastry stuffed with procidan lemon cream and sugar, if you come to Procida you can't miss it!
